The Anti-Corruption setup in the State was established in Punjab in 1955. Initially, the Punjab State Vigilance Commission and Special Inquiry Agency were setup. The Vigilance Commission was subsequently abolished on 14.07.1967. In its place, the Vigilance Department came into existence on 15.09.1967 and the Special Inquiry Agency was brought under its direct control. Subsequently, the Special Enquiry Agency was renamed as Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, vide Government of Punjab, notification No. 4019-20(2)-72/3038 dated 23.8.1972.
